From Cal Tjader, to Poncho Sanchez and Armando Peraza, the Bay Area has served as a proving ground for some of the genre’s biggest names. With the release of their latest album entitled San Francisco, Bay Area-based Latin jazz collective Brian Andres & The Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel look to add their names to the list of stellar musicians that have helped shape San Francisco’s distinct Latin jazz sound.
Brian Andres & The Afro-Cuban Jazz Cartel is one band that you will definitely want to keep your eye on. Their new disc San Francisco has 12 smoking tracks filled with a variety of musical styles ranging from cha cha cha, mambo, and bolero. The track I decided to feature from their CD is called “San Francisco Tiene Su Propio Son”, a son montuno style salsa dance track that will have listeners jumping out their seat and ready to hit the dance floor.
