Here we have a pleasant surprise, a Salsa Dura Orquesta from France! Lead by Philippe “Pipou” Couret, this orchestra draws heavy inspiration from the New York Salsa sounds that were born in el barrios of Spanish Harlem and the Bronx.
The track that I featured called “La Huelga”, is from their last CD called Tribute to the Barrios. This is what we call Salsa con conciencia! Once you take the opportunity to hear some of the band’s work you will quickly realize that the Grupo Salsafon is no joke. These guys simply rock!
I’m confident that we’re going to be hearing a lot from these guys in the near future on NewGenSalsa.com. Grupo Salsafon is currently hard at work on their new project, and I’m looking forward to hearing it as soon as it is released.
