Review: Grupo SalsaFon “A Tite Cantamos” Feat. Oscar Hernandez

I want to personally welcome Grupo Salsafon to our NewGenSalsa.com family of artists.

Philippe “Pipou” Couret, is the leader and director of the band which he started back in 2004 and they’re from the Southern side of France, and include all French musicians except for the two vocalists Rafael Quintero from Venezuela (Grupo Madera) and Hugo Quispe from Peru.

Philippe met Grammy winner Oscar Hernandez from the SHO (Spanish Harlem Orchestra) at a Jazz festival in Marciac and had the opportunity to discussed his project with him and Oscar liked what heard and decided to come on board and contributed the arrangements for the following tracks that appear on this production “A Tite Cantamos”, “Plante Bandera”, “Como Lo Canto Yo”, “Marejada Feliz” and the Cheo Feliciano classic “Anacaona” where he did the piano solo. I also want to add that Quirino Guevara arranged “Con Los Pobres” & “El Hijo De Obatala”.

This is a special tribute to a legend and arguably the greatest Salsa composer ever Mr. Tite Curet Alonso who is responsible for many of the classic songs recorded during the Fania golden era. The track I’m featuring is called “A Tite Cantamos” which was composed by Rafael Quintero and as I indicated above arranged by Oscar Hernandez.

Esto es Salsa sin fronteras and a true testament how much our music is loved around the world. You need to check out Grupo Salsafon and their swing.
